I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis from the stand point of a young elementary school kid, living in Northwest Florida. My father was in the U.S. Air Force at the the time. Things started heating up; we brought can goods, sheets and blankets to store at school, we were actually issued dog tags to wear (long since lost). Practiced the duck and cover routine at school. Dad was away on alert a good deal of the time. It was frightening for a young kid at the time. Not knowing if I'd go to school one day and ever see my parents again was sad and stressful. I was glad when it was over and my father was home once again.
