OK Michael, I've reported in to prove I'm not a bot. I am a proud 'Cold War' veteran and would gladly do it again, even at my advancing age.

Canadian Army 1977-1994 including service with our NATO Brigade (4 CMBG) in what was then West Germany, which I guess makes me a "Cold War Vet."
Screen name is a result of one of my present bad habits/addictions

James - "Cohiba",
Welcome aboard! Pull up a chair and join us!
I spent time with 4 Canadian Service Battalion at Nijmegan (mostly over beer) and came to respect the professionalism of the Canadian soldiers that I served next to in West Germany.
Feel free to join our organization as a fully-fledged member and to tell YOUR story, YOUR Cold War experiences here on our forum. [ We are also looking for an AFCWA Canadian link! Hint, hint ... ]
Thank you for your service James.
All the best,
Regards- Mick

The only time I'm aware of 4 Circus Bn being in Nijmegan would have been for the Nijmegan March so beer would have been involved. Come to think of it most of my time in the Brigade back then involved beer. I knew there was a reason we were there to protect that good German beer.

Nijmegan it was!
If I remember correctly (through an alcoholic haze) was a section of 4 Service, two platoons of 2 Para and most of 10 Para (TA) were tossed for fighting in the beer tent. I head the commotion near the entrance but was too busy drinking with a French marine Sgt-chef to notice.
The Canucks seemed to be *everywhere* in Nijmegan, except the rest areas. "There go them goddamn Canadians" our NCOIC said, three days in. We were supposed to stay in hot pursuit of the Van Doo's and PPCLI but they left us in the dust outside Grave.

I remember our MSG walking over to the Beer Tent when the fun really began peeking in and being hit by a Corporal from 10 Para (TA) as a Canuck had decked him. The Dutch then called in the MP's and out came the camera's for the all the good pics.
